Birth

David Stoppard was born in 1830 in Lea, Derbyshire, to Aaron and Hannah Stoppard (née Brown).

He was christened on the 11th July 1830 in the Parish of Ashover, Chapel of St John the Baptist, Dethick. His parents were Aaron (a butcher) and Hannah Stoppard, who lived at Lea.

They appear together, still living in Lea, in the 1841 census, along with his brother Thomas, and two sisters Ann and Mary.

Marriage

He married Martha Handforth and by 1861 they were living in their own house in Duncan Cottages, Regent Road, Salford, Lancashire. He was a hosier, and well off enough to afford a house servant living with them.

In 1871 the family was living at 134 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Lancashire, and David was now listed as a Provisions Dealer.

Come 1881, the family had moved to Stockport Road, Cheadle, Cheshire, which was Martha's original hometown. David was a Shopkeeper/Grocer and their children Henry and Annie were still at home, probably working for their father (both being Grocer's Assistants). A William Locket was visiting from Manchester (the birthplace of Henry and Annie) and they had an Irish domestic servant (Jane Guilfoyle).

In 1891 he was staying with his brother Thomas Stoppard.

In April 23rd, 1900 his son Henry David Stoppard (38) married Jessie Churm (32). David Stoppard's profession was given as "Gentleman". Jessie Churm's father was given as Richard Churm (deceased).

Death

In 1901 he was a widower living as a lodger at 39 Palatine Road, Northenden, Cheshire.
