Born: ~1771 Died: Married: Elizabeth Burgoine Mother: Tabitha Trower Father: William Chettleburgh Descendant: Sarah Chettleburgh

Birth

Robert Chettleburgh was baptised in Caister St Edmund (a village just South of Lakenham) around on the 18th May 1788, but may have been born much earlier as the baptism mentions that he was 17 at the time, which would put his year of birth at around 1771 (the same as his future wife).

His parents were William Chettleburgh and Tabitha Trower.

One Robert Chettleburgh was listed in the electoral register as living at St Peter of Mancroft, Norwich in 1797, he was listed as a haberdasher. He was also listed in St Peter Mancroft in 1799 in the tax assessment (his assessed value was 10s).

Marriage

Robert married Elizabeth Burgoine in Lakenham on 18th February 1806.

Children

They had five (or six) children in Lakenham, two who died in infancy:

  • Sarah Chettleburgh, born 10th August 1806, buried 30th September 1806
  • Sarah Chettleburgh (mother of William Chettleburgh) born 6th December 1807

  • William Chettleburgh (Uncle to William Chettleburgh), born 22nd March 1812
  • Mary Chettleburgh, born ~1818, married James Jeffrey in 1845

Death

Robert Chettleburgh died in 1822, and was buried on the 19th April at Lakenham St John and All Saints. He was 51 years old.

Supporting evidence that this is the right entry:

  • Robert died sometime before the 1851 census where his wife Elizabeth was listed as being widowed.
  • He also wasn't living with then in the 1841 census either (although the 1841 census doesn't list marital status, so it is possible he was away).
  • The burial was in Lakenham (where his wife continued to live)
  • The age given in the burial record (51) matches his estimated date of birth (1771 - given he was 17 when baptised in 1888).
