John Hunter was born on the 18th December 1780 (baptized 28th) in Torryburn, his parents being John Hunter (a butler) and Janet Lochhead (or Lochead). We know all this from both his death register entry which also states that David Balfour as son-in-law is the informant, and from the Torryburn parish register of birth. Our John Hunter married Helen Anderson

Our John Hunter is not the John Hunter who married Helen Cochrane in Torryburn on the 10th December 1814.

John died suddenly on the 16th December 1861 in Low Torry, at the age of 81. The informant was his son-in-law David Balfour of Low Torry. John's occupation was given as agricultural labourer, and he was still married (his possible wife Helen died ten years later at the age of 83).
