William Randall was the father of James Randall. He was born in around 1817.

Birth

William Randall was baptised on the 7th January 1816, at the Parish Church of Alfold, Surrey, the son of William Randall (a labourer) and Mary (Randall), from Alford.


Marriage

William Randall married Eliza Mariner on the 6th June 1838 at Kirdford, Sussex.

William and Eliza had the following children:

  • Ann Randall, born ~ 1840 in Brighton, Sussex.

In 1851 he was living at Kirdford, Sussex

In 1871 he was living at Kirdford, Sussex, along with his son James Randall and a servant called Ann Durrant. The census lists his age as 54, and his place of birth as Wisborough Green, Sussex. He was an agricultural labourer.

Ann Durant was a widow, and had been living next door to William in the 1861 census.

In 1891 William is 75 and living at 1 Round St Common, Wisborough Green (modern postcode RH14 0AN), with his daughter, now Ann Gumbrell, who is widowed, and her children. He is a retired labourer. Next door is the Fox and Houses inn.


Death

It appears William died in 1898.
