William was born in July in 1804 in Holkham on the north Norfolk coast. His parents were James Carlton (alias Carrington) and Martha Oliver.

He was a gardener.

He married Mary Bullin from Wells (which is about 2 miles from Holkham, so within easy walking distance!), on the 19th November 1822.

He must have moved from Wroxham to Litcham between 1842 and 1845.

He was listed as a gardener in the Litcham parish registers in 1843, and the East Lexham parish registers in 1847.

On the night of 30 March 1851, William is living with his wife, Mary Bullin who is a gardener, and their children: William (12), James (9), Henry (6), John (4), and Frederick (2).

On the night of 7 April 1861 he was living at Trory Street, Lakenham, Norwich with his wife Mary, and four of his children (James, Henry, John, and Frederick). He is still a gardener.

On the night of 2 April 1871 he was boarding with his son Henry at Hills Brewery Lane, Norwich. He was 66, a gardener, and married.

Death

The death of one William Carrington was registered in Norwich in Jan-March 1874, at the age of 71 (Norwich, vol 4b, p 73).

• One William Carrington was registered to vote in Weed's Square, Hamlet of Thorpe, in 1869, 1870, 1871 as was a Tills Bunting.
• One William Chettleburgh was registered to vote in Household in 1869 too!
• a John Carrington owned a house and two cottages in the centre of the town of Litcham, and died in 1823. One of his executors was a James Carrington, farmer of Great Dunham (another was Thomas Chamberlain). He was a Cooper, and sold off a lot of his tools and stock in 1821. Great Dunham is 3 miles from Litcham, and close to Great Fransham too.
• 1862 Marriage of Alfred Carrington, son of John Carrington of Holkham to Sarah daughter of John Burgess of Norwich. Possibly referring to William's brother John born in Holkham in 1799.
• James Carrington of Great Dunham died in February 1863, aged 78 (~1785) - slightly too old to be William's brother James, and too young to be his father.
• One William Carrington was admitted to the Norwich county asylum on the 10th August 1866, and was discharged, or died on the 29th July 1873.
• A Mary Carrington was also admitted on the 12th November 1867, and stayed there until 14th November 1874...
