William Allfrey was born on the 10th August 1845 in Clayton in Sussex, his father was also called William Allfrey and his mother was Audrey Vincent

In 1851 he was 5 years old and living with his widowed father at the house of his grandparents Thomas Allfrey and Catherine Allfrey in Keymer in Sussex.

In 1861 he was 15 years old, and living in West Street, Clayton in Sussex with his father and his step-mother Sarah (born circa 1832 in Chorley, Sussex). William was a brick labourer (his father was a brick layer).

On the 3rd October 1864 he married Charlotte Sarah Nash in Brighton, Sussex.

In 1871 he was 25 years old and living with his wife Charlotte at No. 2 Prospect Cottages in Clayton. He was a bricklayer, and plasterer (and possibly something else, maybe a cow keeper? as the census is unclear). By this time they had four children, Ann Martha, William Henry, Catherine Mary, and Minnie Caroline.

He moved from Clayton to Brighton in around 1876, and by 1881 William was living at 36 Russell St in Brighton, and he was still was a bricklayer, but now he had nine children, Annie, William, Catherine, Philip, Ernest, Alfred, Fanny, Charles and Lilian.

By 1891 William had taken his family away from Brighton, and was living at Manor Farm, Poyning. He is a builder, and employer of other people. His place of birth has changed from Clayton, to Burgess Hill (they are about 4 miles apart).

In 1901 William was living with his family in Oakmere, Albourne in Sussex. He is listed as a housebuilder.

William Allfrey died on the 25th September 1907, aged 63 in Henfield, Sussex.

Birth

William's birth certificate says that he was born on the 5th July 1845 at Clayton. His father was William Allfrey and his mother was Audry Vincent. His father was a bricklayer. His birth was registered by his mother on the Twentieth of July 1845.

Marriage

On the 3rd October 1864 William Allfrey (father William Allfrey) married Charlotte Sarah Nash, 23, (father William Nash) at St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex.
