William Allfrey was born on the 10th August 1845 in Clayton in Sussex, his father was also called William Allfrey and his mother was Sarah (born circa 1832 in Chorley, Sussex).

In 1861 he was 15 years old, and living in West Street, Clayton in Sussex with his parents, where he was a brick labourer (his father was a brick layer).

On the 3rd October 1864 he married Charlotte Sarah Nash in Brighton, Sussex.

In 1871 he was 25 years old and living with his wife Charlotte at No. 2 Prospect Cottages in Clayton. He was a bricklayer, and plasterer (and possibly something else, maybe a cow keeper? as the census is unclear). By this time they had four children, Ann Martha, William Henry, Catherine Mary, and Minnie Caroline.

He moved from Clayton to Brighton in around 1876, and by 1881 William was living at 36 Russell St in Brighton, and he was still was a bricklayer, but now he had nine children, Annie, William, Catherine, Philip, Ernest, Alfred, Fanny, Charles and Lilian.

By 1891 William had taken his family away from Brighton, and were living at Manor Farm, Poyning.

In 1901 William was living with his family in Oakmere, Albourne in Sussex.

William Allfrey died on the 25th September 1907, aged 63 in Henfield, Sussex.
