The Rev. Dr. Samuel Curteis was the master of Sunbury School, Sunbury-on-Thames, County of Middlesex, and was the father of Mary Jane Curteis.

In 1824 he was living at Heathfield House, Turnham Green, Chiswick, London.

Birth

Samuel Curteis was born in 1768 at Tenderten.

He was the son of James and Mary Curteis, brother of Sarah Amelia Curteis, Philadelphia Curteis, and Frances Curteis.


First Marriage

Samuel married Eleanor Croft, daughter of John Croft, of Hitchin, Hertfordshire, on the 2nd February, 1792.

They were married at St. Andrew's, Holborn, Middlesex.

Samuel's first wife Eleanor died in October 1830 at the age of 68.

Samuel Curteis (Widower) married a Margaret Croft in November 1832 (with banns read on the 14 Oct, 21st Oct, 28th Oct, 1832, at St Mary Islington, the parish of both of them).

It is assumed that Margaret was Eleanor's sister.

DEATH OF A NORFOLK J.P. A VENERABLE RESIDENT OF DISS.

Death

Samuel Curteis died on the 10th July, 1844 at Shelton Rectory, Norfolk, aged 76. Shelton Rectory was the home of his youngest son Jeremiah Curteis.


On the 10th inst., at Shelton Rectory, in this county, the residence of his son, in his 77th year, the Rev. Samuel Curteis, LL. D., formerly of Queen's college, Cambridge. - Bury and Norwich Post 17 July 1844

The Cambridge Chronicle and Journal 20 July 1844 adds that it was "the residence of his youngest son"

aged 76, the Rev. Samuel Curteis, L.L.D.
formerly of Linton, Cambridgeshire.
He was of Queen's college, Cambridge, B.A. 1789, as 11th Senior Optime, M.A. 1801, LL.D. 1808.
He was for some years Master of Sunbury school.
