Richard Churm was born in 1824, to Joseph Churm and Mary Churm, in Newport, Shropshire, England. He was christened on the 22nd August 1824.

He married Eliza Maria O'Reilly on the 15th May 1851 in the Cathedral in Manchester.

Together they had eight children:

  • Kate H. Churm (~1853)
  • Harry R. Churm (~1855)
  • Alfred R. Churm (~1857) - a braid salesman in 1881
  • William Joseph Churm (22 June 1859)
  • Fanny E. Churm (~1863)
  • Arthur C. Churm (~1865) - clerk in cotton in 1881
  • Jessie Churm (~1870)
  • Frank Churm (~1872)

In the 1861 census he is living at 17 New York Street, Chorlton On Medlock, Manchester.

At the time of the 1871 census the Churm family is living at 40 Clifford Street, Chorlton On Medlock, Manchester, Lancashire and Richard is a salesman of cotton goods.

By the time of the 1881 census Richard is widowed, is working as a Cotton Salesman and is living at 62 Ducie Grove in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Lancashire, England (in the south-west of Manchester).
