Mary Ann Stewart Dunn was born on the 1st May 1866 in St Hildas, South Shields, Durham. Her parents were Robert Dunn (a mariner) and Elizabeth Harley.

She was probably named after her aunt, Mary Ann Harley, who married Thomas Stewart in 1862, becoming Mary Ann Stewart, only four years before she was born.

She was christened on the 23rd May 1866.

In 1871, when she was 4, she was living at 62 Thames Street, Westoe, South Shields with her mother Elizabeth (33) and her sister Margaret H. Dunn (2). Her father was dead, and her mother was listed as a dressmaker.

In 1881 she was living at 107 Palmerston Street, Westoe. In the same house (but different household) was two widows, a Mary Ann Stuart, 49, (perhaps an aunt?) and a Dorothy Harley, 83, (perhaps a grandmother, or grand-aunt).

Mary Ann Stewart Dunn was born on the 1st May 1866 in St Hildas, South Shields, Durham. Her parents were Robert Dunn (a mariner) and Elizabeth Harley.

She was christened on the 23rd May 1866.

Marriage

Mary Ann Stewart Dunn married Charles John Watson on the 21st September 1890 at the Parish Church of Holy Trinity?, South Shields. Her address at the time was given as 47 John Williamson Street. The witnesses were her sister and father-in-law.

Mary and Charles had four children:

• Robert Norman Watson (14 January 1891)
• Florence Margaret Watson (~1893 - 12 June 1937. m. Arthur Henry Robson in 1917)
• Harley Watson (~1896)
• Jane Watson (~1902)

In 1891 they are living together at 20 Chichester Road, Westoe, Durham with their two month old son Robert Watson.

In 1901 Mary and her husband Charles turn up at 14 Belle Vue Crescent, South Shields, Durham, where they are living with all three of their children. Charles is still a butcher, but is now listed as employing people as well.

In 1911 she had moved to 10 Talbot Road, Tyne Dock, South Shields, where she was living with her husband Charles and their four children Robert Watson, Robert, Florence, Harley and Jane. She is listed as 43 years old. Her husband is still employing people as a butcher.

Death

Mary Ann Watson died on the 4th March 1927 at 10, Talbot Road, South Shields. She was buried on the 7th March 1927 at Harton Cemetery.

Obituary in the Newcastle Journal. 5th March 1927:

WATSON.- 10, Tabot Road, South Shields, on
4th inst., Mary Ann, beloved wife of Charles
L. Watson. To be interred at Harton
Cemetery on Monday, the 7th. The only
intimation.

Note: the obituary does say Charles L. Watson, instead of Charles J. Watson.
