For the baptism of Mary Ann in 1824, the surname is listed as "Carrington (or Carlton)", their abode is Wells, and Williams trade is "gardener".

On the night of 6 June 1841, Mary was living with her family

They must have moved from Wroxham to Litcham between 1842 and 1845.

On the night of 30 March 1851, Mary is living with her husband, William Carrington who is a gardener, and their children: William (12), James (9), Henry (6), John (4), and Frederick (2).

On the night of the 7th April 1861 Mary is living at Trory Street, Lakenham, Norwich with her husband William and four of her sons, James (19), Henry (16), John (14) and Frederick (12).

Death

It appears that Mary was admitted to the Norwich Borough Asylum on the 12th November 1867, and stayed there until 14th November 1874.

The census of 1871 confirms she was staying as a patient at the Infirmary Road Borough Asylum, St Clement, Norwich. She was 65, born in Wells, Norfolk, and the wife of a gardener, which seems a conclusive match. Her condition was listed as lunatic (which probably covered a wide range of conditions including dementia). Also in asylum according to the census there is a William Carrington, but he was 22, an unmarried Tailor, so not her husband.

The registration of death of one Mary Carrington, aged 74, happened in Q4, 1877, Norwich, vol. 4b., p81.

Other Records

Mary's son William (a tailor) was honourably discharged from the Coldstream Guards in 1860, for being unfit for duty, after only serving for 261 days. His discharge reports that he was born in Wroxham, and that he joined at the age of 19 years and 6 months old on the 23rd September 1859.
