Summary

This is an oval cribbage board by Nathaniel Brown Engleheart (1790-1869) which is currently in storage in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. It was made in ca. 1820-50 from turned and carved ivory and is decorated with elaborate designs of concentric circles and dots. The top of a raised boss in the centre unscrews and shows a box containing two turned markers for keeping scores in the card game of cribbage.

Turned ivory. The oval board, which stands on six feet, is turned with elaborate designs of concentric circles and dots. The top of a raised boss in the centre unscrews and shows a box containing two turned markers for the game.
