Caroline Carter (nee Clout) was the mother of William John Carter, and would have been born around 1826.
In 1841 she was 15 years old and a female servant at Mount Pleasant Cottage Back, Tonbridge, Kent, working for the Hicks family.
On the night of 2nd April 1871 she was 47 and living with her husband William Carter (64) and their 9 year old son William at Brickyard Cottage in Kennington, Kent.
On the night of 3rd April 1881 she was still living with her husband William Carter and their son William (19), but the house is not named. They are two doors away from Grocer's shop, Kennington St.

Caroline was born around 1824 in Brenchley, Kent.
She was baptised in Brenchley, Kent on the 11th April 1824. Her parents were James Clout and Frances Clout.
Marriage
Caroline Clout married William Carter in the parish church of Brenchley, Kent on the 8th November 1847. He was a widower, she was a spinster, and both of full age and residence in Brenchley, Kent.
Unfortunately the marriage certificate does not name either father - this section is left blank.
