Born: Died: ? Married: Francis Englehart Mother: Ann Father: Thomas Dawney Descendant: George Engleheart

Ann Dawney was the daughter of Thomas Dawney, parish clerk of St Anne, Kew Green. Her mother was Ann.

She married Francis Englehart in 1733 by license. Her father was deceased, so her mother Ann was her guardian for the wedding.

The George Engleheart 1750-1829 book has a family tree with J. Dawney as her father, not T. Dawney. But then it also said her father was Vicar of the parish, when he was in fact the parish clerk.

The Richmond Papers: From the Correspondence and Manuscripts of George Richmond and His Son, Sir William Richmond says :

"Six years after his death, two of his sons:-Robert, born in 1731, and Thomas, born November 17, 1740 - left Bawtry for the south of England. On August 27, 1762, Thomas, the younger of these two, married, at Kew, the third daughter of John Bone by his wife Mary, who was herself a daughter of the Rev. Thomas Dawney, first Vicar of Kew. It may be added that Mrs. Dawney's two elder daughters married respectively John Dillman, who designed Kew Garders for King George II., and a Mr. Engleheart, father of the celebrated miniature painter George Engleheart."

Birth

The register of St Mary Magdalene, Richmond says:

Anne Dawney Daughter of Thomas, 9th September 1713

Marriage

Francis Inglehart (bachelor) married Ann Dawney (spinster), the daughter of the late vicar of the parish.

They obtained a marriage license (avoiding banns) dated the 2nd April 1733 at St Anne, Kew Green, Surrey.

The guardian of Francis was given as John Tillman of the parish of Kew in the county of Surrey (Gardiner).

The guardian of Ann was given as Ann Dawney of the same parish and county (widow).

A bond of Two hundred pounds was promised to be paid to the Bishop of Winchester in the situation where the information given for the license was false.

Children

Ann had the following children with Francis:

  • John Dillman Engleheart, c.8th June 1735, St Ann, Kew
  • Francis Inglehart, c.20 Dec 1738, St Anne, Kew. Buried 12 Jan 1739 (o.c.1738) (St Anne)
  • Francis Inglehart, c.31 Aug 1740, St Anne, Kew. Buried 5 Oct 1740 (St Anne)
  • Francis Inglehart, Infant Buried 28 Oct 1742 (St Anne, Kew)
  • Thomas Englehart, c.15 Apr 1745, St Anne, Kew.
  • William Englehart, c.22 July 1746, St Anne, Kew. Buried Sep 8th 1747 (St Anne, Kew)
  • George Englehart, c.26 Oct 1750, St Anne, Kew (son of George and Ann Englehart)

Interestingly George Engleheart's father is written as George Englehart, whether this is an error by the vicar, or whether Francis was now being called George, is unclear.

Death

Ann died on the 3rd September 1780, seven years after her husband.

The register of burials at St Anne, Kew, states Anne Engleheart was buried on the 7th September 1780, and her age was 64.

The original inscription on the family vault stated:

Also Mrs. Ann Engleheart Wife of the above named Francis Engleheart she died September 3rd, 1780.
